The Lion’s Share 2025 Galerie Eli Kerr, Montréal Purchase The Lion’s Share DELUXE

I am a photographer and this makes me happy. I lean into the tiny glass rectangle which contains an entire world. For the moment, it is my own secret scene. It started with a suspicion, a hunch for potential. Now the viewfinder shows me what I wish for and what I already have. My truth, indulged, amplified, bowed down to: knowledge and desire intertwined, then maximized.

I work to justify my obsession for life's subtle miracles. Some days they cascade before my eyes like unfolding velvet. Under the same roof, seven friends and I go about our conversations, coffee-drinking and haircuts while my marzipan king cake bakes in the oven: the ease of this scene is spectacular to me. My camera produces tangible proofs of these moments in which I experience such slivers of peace, devoid of turbulence and inadequacy. Photographs can be an antidote to distance. As I frame my shot, I am being let in and I feel allowed to belong: a participant of life.

I want to speak of the immutable sense of hope and excitement that photography has allowed me to cultivate: I drop a roll off at the lab, it will be ready Wednesday – always something to look forward to… Now here I am with my pictures. On opening night I will watch you look at them. Holding my breath, I’ll wish that they can shake up the part of you where love lives. Here is an unlikely vision of a friend seen through flames. Then, the two-minute window where sunlight embraces a vase in this particular, quiet way. Horses overlapped and quasi-panoramic, furniture from my childhood home stacked up like Tetris. From the door, you can see her teeth as stars of the show.

In a dark room all one can perceive is light. Yes I am still talking about Romance and yes I am trying to get away with dreaming big again... Uh-oh, I want to surprise and to impress and to roar and to eat more. I am greedy because I am giving. How many times have I licked my wounds at the thought of an image never realized, a projection never carried out into life? As little as possible, I'd like to say. The unbearable thought of having missed out on more flavour keeps me going. Delicious!, Decadent!, More More More!

I am in the business of exposing photography for what it always has been: supernatural. How otherworldly is it to think of reality rendered into light, trapped in a box, then hatched into a million colours for you to keep? This idea makes me feel safe to believe in just about anything. A photo is a love letter, it is a revelation and a promise. I've gathered in this show a portion of moments, documents of reverence and of devotion to friendship, play, reminiscence, spectacle, longing, razzle-dazzle, the unfathomable, stillness, eloquence and magic – to life in and of itself. Hunting for love, feasting for sport: I am a Lion and this is my share.
